After being open for just six months he was pumping more gas than any other filling station in Kentucky. When the great depression of the 30’s happened the gas station was forced to close. Giving up was not an option. He moved to Corbin, Kentucky, to take over a Shell station with adding a Cafe to the gas station. His café was a success. At his café his main item was his fried Chicken. He experimented with pressure cookers and found a way to make fried chicken. At the age 66 Sanders decided that he would go around and try and sell the rights to franchise his special recipe. He was actually appointed a Colonel by the Kentucky Governor Laffon in the early 30s. In 1960s Sanders had roughly 200 franchise. By 1963 he had 600. Sanders paired with John Brown Jr. The two began a barbecue business name “Porky Pig’s”. Brown brought in Jack Massey to help out financially. Brown and Massey wanted to buy out Sanders. Sanders’ wanted two million dollars and that he would still be a goodwill ambassador and involved with sales. KFC was sold just seven years later for $280 million to Heublein, INC.
