On the other side of the spectrum, there is this play that describes a young boy that is finding who he is, whether it is determined by the sexual preferences or the true artistry, just as the original show mentions. The only difference between the character in contemporary America and the character from the original piece is that they determine different paths they lead at the end. For example, in the original, Tommy doesn’t come out voluntarily and denies it to be exact, but in the end is torn by the way he denied Hedwig and apologizes. Meanwhile in the play, he disperses the news to everyone live on an award show and ends up being okay with the subject. This also might be a good point that the authors are tying to place on the point: The matter that the time period and the area in which these characters are placed explain the decisions in which they determined their fate. This person is pretty much the “more experienced” one of the storyline, because he is a 25-year-old boy whom had a life of experimenting with other women before becoming entirely homosexual. He says, “Oh, dated plenty of them,” when talking to Tommy. This is the part when he is preparing Tommy for the date with Sara. On the other hand, the character Dave is actually originally the narrator from “How to Date a Brown Girl (Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie).” Taking this part and connecting it with the other, it is shown that the character still has some characteristics from the original context, but is more molded into the character these authors wanted him to be. The original story is placed in ghetto NYC, where the narrator is from Dominican background. I noticed the way the character talks, it is still very ghetto in a way, but it is shown that the authors did a interesting part of taking a ghetto individual and placing him in a richer metropolitan area. The character development was solid and well
