The first sentence of the third paragraph in the Declaration of Independence is a lengthy statement that describes the rights of every person and the right of the people to regulate the government. This was very important in our history, but in today's society it is not as compelling. Americans already know about their rights. They know of their freedoms in this country, because it is evident in their daily lives. Also, most people are comfortable with the powers that the government holds, because they know that they also have some control. Americans exercise their powers in the government every time that they vote to elect a government official.
