The constitutional foundations established in the late 1700s have supported American government for more than two centuries. For that reason, there are many similar traits that we share between our past and current government. Because nothing is always perfect, we have changed our government over time which creates the differences from our past government. The colonial government that we had in the past has many similarities and differences to our current government format that we have today. Every English colony had a separate government and governor per colony while we only have one national government today for the entire United States.
