They are more looked upon to set the examples and uphold the values of the Army, as well as giving guidance to their subordinates. If an NCO denies the right to counsel or ability to utilize the chain of command, that can be considered as a compromise of integrity. Another example of compromising integrity within the unit could be fraternizing with NCO’s. Now it is understood that the Army is supposed to be a family, but it has been deemed unacceptable to be in a sense on a personal basis with NCO’s to an inappropriate extent. In order to avoid such degradations of integrity is the reason why we have policies in effect that keep us in a sense “at bay”.
