A crash diet typically restricts calorie intake and causes extreme nutritional deprivation. It is meant to achieve rapid weight loss and may differ from outright starvation only very slightly. It is not meant to last for long periods of time, at the most a few weeks.

Blood type diet: This diet recommends distinct diets for each blood type. The consensus among dieticians, physicians, and scientists is that the theory is unsupported by scientific evidence.
The cabbage diet: This is a radical weight loss diet designed around heavy consumption of low calorie cabbage soup over a period of seven days. It incorporates other food items (specific amounts on specific days) to be consumed with cabbage soup. It is designed for short term weight loss and requires no long-term commitment.
Water melon diet: This weight loss diet is based on consumption of only water melons for one-two days. This is another short-term program sans a long-term commitment.
Juice (liquid) diet: Here the dieter is not allowed to have solid food, but only unsweetened fruit juices and/or protein shakes over a period of seven days.
Master cleanse: This diet permits no food, only juices. It substitutes lemonade made with maple syrup, water and cayenne pepper for solid food for 10 days.
