In 2005, there was research conducted by Med Care. They carried out an organised review and analysis of literature. From 1980 until June 2003, they conducted manual and automated searches to find research on interventions aimed at enhancing the cultural competency of medical professionals. The review contained thirty-four studies. Their findings found that there is good evidence that cultural competence training enhances health professionals' attitudes and skills (14 of 14 studies evaluating skills and 21 of 25 studies evaluating attitudes showed a beneficial effect), as well as excellent evidence that cultural competence training improves health professionals' knowledge (17 of 19 studies demonstrating a beneficial effect).
