Truman authorized a modest program of economic and military aid to the French who were fighting to obtain control of their Indochina colony including Laos in Cambodia as well as Vietnam. Dwight Eisenhower 1953- 1961 In February 1954 President Eisenhower refused to commit American troops the Franco Vietnamese war. Similarly, he stated, “I cannot conceive of a greater tragedy for America, then to get heavily involved now in all out war in any of those regions”. Kennedy 1961-1963 During the Vietnamese war, he tripled the economic and military aid to the South Vietnamese. Moreover, he also sent more U.S. Military advisors in Indochina. Furthermore, both of these decisions broke the Geneva Agreement of 1954. Unfortunately, it convinced the peasants of South Vietnam into supporting the North Vietnamese communism. In addition to Kennedy’s presidency, the anti-war movement was to decide whether to start a war or to carry on and ignore the drama around. However, it is also very similar to Pacifism, and they decide whether to use all the military or not for war. U.S. Intervention took place in earnest years, it did not begin until nearly two years later when President Lyndon B. In the following picture it shows the early escape of Americans from the fallen capital of Saigon. Tet Offensive 1968 Around late January the venom took a cease fire for 2 nights in order to celebrate Tet, the lunar new year. In addition, one night during the celebration the American troops at their bases were getting signals of multiple attacks around South Vietnam. Furthermore, what happened was the largest military strike in the Vietnam war. The Tet Offensive was a brutal night where multiple Vietcong sneaked motors weaponry and men in South Vietnam to attack multiple villages, cities, and U.S. bases. In addition, not only that, but the Vietcong also went into the houses of important government leaders during to execute them in their own house. Moreover, this brutal attack was the first thing American people truly saw in their tvs back at home This attack started the protest to end the war and pull the American troops out of Vietnam. The fall of Saigon 1975 It's the capital of South Vietnam where it was liberated by the North Vietnamese. Therefore, no more reinforcements were given by the united states since they finally realize that there was no point of fighting.
