What rules do your parents or school have which you do not follow? How do they make you feel? The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 and it contains our ideals, purposes, and principles. After issuing the Declaration of Independence all 13 colonies agree to become independent from Britain and to follow it. Two principles of the Declaration of Independence are: all people are created equal and all people have basic rights that cannot be taken away. However, as of 2017, the United States is not upholding the principles of the Declaration of Independence. To begin with, all people are created equally but not treated equally. Most commonly, people of different races are treated differently and degraded. They are dehumanized and do not receive the same treatment a white man would get. Not everyone in the United States is free from torture and slavery. Many people, such as immigrants, are put to hard labor with very low income. Another is the right to a fair trial. Sometimes, people will be sentenced without any trials at all. Some importants rights are the freedom of speech, thought, and religion. There have been many protests recently in which police had to get involved to stop them. This is completely unfair to the protestors who have the freedom of speech. Human rights only exist because the government says so, but they can be taken away at any time. Americans say that human rights are universal and force it upon others. However, if they were truly universal, there would be no need for the force. If the government punishes you to death for something that is lawfully wrong, have they violated your basic rights? Basic rights such as the right to live shouldn’t be taken away from you but if they are taken away from you, are they really basic rights? It seems that the government has the right to take away your basic
