Scent Control
Before a big hunt, make sure you're using scent control clothing. Deer can smell a human from further away than you'd think. Make sure you're showering with unscented soap and shampoo too. If you don't want to go to all that trouble for your hunt, you can purchase scent killing spray instead. It'll help when the wind isn't blowing in your favor.
Range Finder
Before the hunt, make sure you're using a range finder to make marks around the stand. You want to stay within your comfortable range when making a shot. When you're using deer calls, make sure you're not scaring the deer away from your location. They have acute hearing, and if you're calling too loudly, you can send them scurrying in the other direction. It's important that you don't overuse the deer call too.
