I'm now able to participate comfortably in extracurriculars when school lets out at 2:10 PM rather than worry about the lack of time I have to finish schoolwork, finally able to pursue my passions and enjoy myself amongst friends and family. In comparison to my elementary school days, I actually end up coming home earlier than I did previously simply due to the fact that activities are scheduled earlier in the day rather than later. Students essentially gain about three hours to fulfill their necessities whether it be asking for help from a teacher (teachers and coaches have to go home too!), finishing homework early at the library, preparing for a club meeting, or just relaxing. It could potentially even determine the status of a college application based on an improvement in grades, a request for a letter of recommendation, or a job experience one has acquired. With retrospect, I consider the early start of school to be healthier for students, reserving time to be invested in accomplishing all three aspects of well-being laid out by the Boy Scouts of America: emotional, social, and physical health, if the time is responsibly used within the student's reasonable capacity.
