Desiree’s Baby
“Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible” (Angelou). In Kate Chopin’s short story, “Desiree’s Baby,” Desiree is at odds with love, race, and prejudice. Desiree had belong to no one. She was abandoned as a toddler, but was then adopted by loving parents: the Valmondes. However, they didn’t know anything about her heritage or ancestry.
Even though Desiree was adopted, she still comes from a loving home. Desiree had married a young aristocrat named Armand Aubigny. Armand knows about Desiree’s background and yet he still loves her. “The passion that awoke in him that day, when he saw her at the gate, swept along
