Believe it or not, climate change is here, real, and affecting the world around us with irreversible consequences caused by humans. At this point, there is so much data and scientific agreement on climate change, every single person should be at least aware of climate change. The current level of abhorrence at the very thought that humans are causing the climate to change, that the climate even is changing, and that this change is having detrimental effects to humans around the world, should not exist. The evidence and effects of climate change is all around us, and yet we refuse to do anything about it, some of us refuse to even acknowledge it. Whether we chose to accept the effects of climate change or not, they aren’t killing the planet, …show more content…
“The industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide levels from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million in the last 150 years.” (NASA) Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, meaning that it absorbs and traps heat. As light hits the Earth from the Sun, instead of reflecting off the surface back into space, the heat is instead absorbed by the CO2 in the atmosphere. Humans are the cause of this rise in carbon dioxide. Before humans, the Earth kept the levels of carbon dioxide mostly stable, with the oceans, soil, and other animals all releasing carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide then got absorbed back into the oceans and forests, keeping the CO2 levels. below four hundred parts per million. When humans started burning fossil fuels and using cars, while also cutting down forests and killing coral with oil spills, the Earth’s natural way of absorbing CO2 out of the atmosphere, we started to increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The Earth is warming, not because of the Sun, but because of the greenhouse effect. The Sun’s activity has been decreasing while the Earth’s temperature has been continually increasing, as, “The 10 warmest …show more content…
Literally. The world is dying and they don’t care and they don’t see and they don’t choose to acknowledge that climate change is real and killing people. People deny climate change partly because of confirmation bias. They seek out information that confirms their beliefs and ignore anything that goes against them. When they are being confirmed by someone, whoever it is, without or with facts to back their statements up, they will believe the opinion that goes with their opinion. They want to fit in somewhere, and finding people who agree with them is just one way people do that. Find who think the same way you do. People deny climate change because they only listen to PAIN. “According to psychologist daniel gilbert, we respond to threats that are personal, that represent abrupt changes in our environment, that are immoral or indecent, and that are affecting us now.” Why people don’t believe in climate science. (Howstuffworks youtube.) Climate change is usually not personal in a first world country, as it is in a developing country. It’s not abrupt, it’s over the course of decades. It’s immoral to think that humans are the cause of so much death and destruction. And climate change is the last thing that is seemingly affecting
