Water all around you. You look down at the beautiful coral reef. In a quick flash, a small fish comes out of its rocky home. A wave comes by and, you contemplate how the creatures don’t get pushed away. Suddenly, you get a sick feeling. You need to breathe! You swim to the surface and wonder how it is to be a sea creature. In the ocean, animals need to have adaptations to live amongst this captivating ecosystem. To clarify, an ecosystem is all the living and nonliving things that live in a specific area or environment and interact with each other. The Neritic zone is located on the continental shelf.Also, it has a constant temperature, low pressure, and lots of sunlight. The lined seahorse’ environment affects its adaptations in many ways such as its snout, skin texture and color, and its brood pouch. For starters, an adaptation of the lined seahorse’ is the way it catches its prey. According to arkive.org, since the lined seahorse is a carnivorous species that is inefficient at swimming speedily enough to chase its prey, they use their elongated snout to imbibe in minute crustaceans. Using this lengthened proboscis, the lined seahorse survives because with this straw-like mouth, it can obtain its food in a more effective manner by siphoning in prey. To begin, a major threat to the lined seahorse’ environment, the ocean, is pollution. Amid the text, “Oceans: Into the Deep” states, “Approximately 6.4 million tons of plastic and other debris enter the oceans each year. And every year, more than 1 million marine animals die from eating or getting caught in this debris” (Dignan 13). This demonstrates that pollution is a threat because some of the marine animals that are getting caught could be a very important valuable significant part of the food chain and cause odious consequences. Moreover, another threat to the ocean, the lined seahorse’ environment, is overfishing. Akin to greenpeace.org, “Overfishing is threatening food security for hundreds of millions of people and destroying ocean ecosystems worldwide...Put simply, there are too many boats chasing too few fish.” Obviously, this shows that overfishing is a serious threat since both the ocean ecosystems are being destroyed and many people around the world could be left without a food source. Likewise, an additional threat to the ocean and lined seahorse’ ecosystem is climate change.
