The food seahorses eat are usually along the bottom area of the ocean. Such as, crustaceans, mysid shrimp, larval shrimp, and sometimes invertebrates. Crabs, stingrays, manta rays, tuna, penguins, and various breeds of fish prey on seahorses. Unfortunately for seahorses, they don’t have many options for ways of defense. They can’t physically defend themselves so they can only use sources like hiding in their underwater surroundings. Seahorses don't have scales but they have tight skin that stretches around ring shaped bones in their body. Seahorses do not swim like other creatures of the ocean. Instead of swimming horizontally, they swim in a vertical motion. The Razorfish is the only other sea creature that swims vertically like the seahorse.
