Lewis and clark

Throughout American history many actions have had underlying reasons which fully. Some are to further the government's strength, others establish better trade relations, and some just try and make money. But the Lewis and Clark expedition had the intent to explore the land newly acquired through the Louisiana Purchase and gather knowledge from the Native people who have already called the land their home for generations before them. There was no intent in this besides the discovery of what lays within and beyond this freshly acquired land. The land was purchased in 1803 from France and added an additional 827,000 square miles to the United States west of the Mississippi River. This land was purchased from Napoleon by Thomas Jefferson for $15 million. This acquisition at the time was questionable as the Jefferson had a strict approach towards the constitution and his actions follow a more loose interpreter kind of approach. The change of heart within Jefferson was most likely ignited by this proposition which was coming from a seemingly desperate Napoleon and was unlikely to take place again should Napoleon solve his own financial issues without the sale of other assets. Needing a translator with the natives this is where they finally came across and hired Toussaint Charbonneau. Alongside with the newest members of the expedition they set off towards the west. Along the journey Lewis sent copies of his records which included maps, descriptions of vegetation, several animals, and
