For all the know it could be some type of racial slur or insult towards them that they would be very uncomfortable with.
Moreover, the fact that there is limited research on this topic that seems to be of great importance seems to amaze me. The “Changing Law Enforcement Agency” states,
“There has been limited research on the assumption that an increase in the proportion of any underrepresented group in a police agency would have a positive effect in the community. Some believe that an increase in Hispanic, African American, or Asian officers in a neighborhood of the same race or ethnicity would improve police-community relations” (Shusta, Levine, Wong, Olson, and Harris 54).
