Much can be said about our nation’s devotion to the well-being of its citizens, a devotion that despite its noble intentions often times causes the government to do more harm than good . A prime example of this can be seen in the debate regarding the legal driving age and whether or not raising it will be beneficial or detrimental to the decrease of motor vehicle related deaths in teens of all ages. On one side there are those who argue that the driving age should be raised due to the vulnerability of teens to motor vehicle accidents because of their “ combination of inexperience and immaturity “ and therefore believe that older teens should too be subject to the driving laws that younger teens are such as required programs that grant driving …show more content…
For instance , my older brother had a friend named sebastian that had never needed to participate in a driving program because he had simply waited until he was 18 to get his license so that he wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of needing to drive with an adult, or be prohibited from driving his car at whatever hour he pleased. However, in doing so sebastian did not allow himself to become adequately prepared for many of the real-life situations that arise and are dangerous, so one night when he and my brother went for a ride he had made a wrong move because he panicked and over steered himself and my brother off of the road , causing the car to roll and them both to be greatly injured. Luckily, they both survived but if he had been required to participate in a program he would have known that he shouldn’t have turned the wheel too hard to avoid a drunk
