Summary of the new criteria’s for Autism is only one diagnostic category, Autism Spectrum
Disorder. They are Autism disorder, Asperger’s disorder, Childhood disintegrative disorder and pervasive
Developmental disorder- not otherwise specified (PDD_NOS), into Autism Spectrum Disorder, (APA
013).
In order to receive a diagnosis of ASD, under the new DSM-4 criteria, there has to be two domains of impairments instead the three that were used in DSM-4. Lohr, D, and Tanguay P, Pediatric Annals,
April, (2013). The new domains are first social interaction, than social communication, and restricted interest and repetitive behaviors. To have a diagnosis of ASD made the individual must meet a total of five out of seven impairments, in all areas of social interaction criteria and social communication domain, plus at least two the criteria in the restricted interest and repetitive behavior domain, Lohr and Tanguay (2013). Sensory differences are under the restrictive and repetitive behaviors domain, also added
