Indoor & Outdoor Activities.
It is important when planning Indoor & Outdoor activities to take the following into account;
The individual needs, abilities and ages of the children & young people
Certain Risk factors & their management
Mobility, sensory & medical needs
The needs of carers & the extended family
The environment & the services that are available
A duty of care; to always have the child’s safety & welfare in mind. The desired outcome, with clear aims & objectives based around the EYFS framework.
Lines of responsibilities; everyone has responsibility for the health & safety of the children & young people. Each member of staff needs clear reporting responsibilities.
Monitoring
Health and safety is monitored within the Pre School setting by;
Completing Daily risk assessments
By having clear & comprehensive policies & procedures, which cover all aspects of health & safety
For example, Lost child, behaviour, house rules, safeguarding children and young people, fire safety, emergency cover for medical needs, medical and medicine permission
By completing checks required by Law, for example the electrics are checked by a qualified electrician every year
By checking the Accident/incident record book regularly.
Ensuring the visitors book is checked daily
Smoke alarms checked weekly and recorded
That a Fire escape plan is in place and fire drill is practised each term
