At first glance, emotional intelligence seems to have significant validity and relevance against all the traditional functions of management and leadership. In the navy in particular, the ability of leadership competencies must be possessed by all officers. However, to relate emotional intelligence in the military context presents some significant challenges due to the prevailing impression that the military leadership induces more task-related behavior than relationship-focused behavior. Due to the unique context of a challenging and core duties, EI skills are likely to be crucial in carrying out the daily functions of a leader.

(CL Rice, 1999) using a model of emotional intelligence capabilities developed by Mayer and Salovey to assess the effectiveness of the troops and their leaders based on ratings from top to bottom. EI two leaders also measured as well as the average score of EI for the team. This study suggests that emotional intelligence plays an important role in effective team leadership and team performance, but it does not play a role in all aspects of the overall performance.

He suggested that a leader should be able to recognize emotions in themselves and others because of higher self-awareness will affect the performance of management.
