A common theme found throughout the myth The Epic of Gilgamesh is the conflict between nature and culture. In the beginning, Gilgamesh is causing several issues in the kingdom of Uruk such as fighting young men, sleeping with countless women, and being outwardly arrogant to his citizens. Gilgamesh is viewed as a hero because he is two-thirds divine, making his citizens fear him. Additionally, when Gilgamesh fights with the young men in Uruk, he is depleting Uruk’s workforce by battering all of the able-bodied men. He further insults the men of Uruk by sleeping with their wives, or soon-to-be wives. On top of that, Gilgamesh is outwardly arrogant about his physical attributes, making the citizens favor him even less. However, Enkidu presents
