The last kind of epilepsy seizure is called the absence seizure. These usually develop in children of a young age and the symptoms include blank staring along with a feeling of confusement. Absence seizures only last a few seconds but the child affected may experience many of these a day.
Epilepsy occurs as people age. About 70% of cases of epilepsy can be cured or controlled with medication. On certain people medication doesn’t work so they have to result to surgery or something called neurostimulation. Their diet may also need to be changed as a way to change the functioning of their body. Epilepsy may not last the person's whole life. Many people improve so much that they eventually leave the medication and can live without it. About sixty five million people have this problem which is about 1% of the population. About 5 to 10% of people will have a seizure that isn’t provoked by the time that they are 80 years old. Once they have a seizure they now have about a 40 to 50% chance of getting another one. 6% of people who have epilepsy have seizures that are triggered from specific events. These are known as reflex seizures. Things that may causes this kind of seizures are flashing lights or sudden noises. Reflex seizures are only triggered by specific stimuli.
