Javelina are among the more intrusive of these animals, entering the urban fringe and other human-populated areas in search of food, water, shelter, or even general curiosity. They can be found in central and south Arizona, including the outskirts of Phoenix, most of Tucson, and sometimes as far north as Flagstaff. Javelina usually form herds of up to two or more than twenty of each other to defend themselves against predators, protect their young, and establish territory among other herds. Unlike the javelina, however, the mountain lion is a relatively solitary creature, preferring to avoid confrontation and mainly keeping to themselves and their children, if the lion in specific is a
