“The field of ethics (or moral philosophy) involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior” (http://www.iep.utm.edu/ethics/).
The Kudler Fine Foods is trying to change their produce in order to carry organically grown food. Kudler Fine Foods is an upscale food store located in California that was created by Kathy Kudler. Kudler started out as a small business and has grown into three stores throughout the San Diego cosmopolitan area. The three stores are located within existing shopping centers and they each contain a bakery, meat, produce, cheese, and fine wines. In the company's mission statement: "We will provide our customers the finest in selected foodstuff, wines, and related needs in an unparalleled consumer environment because we “shop the world” for our products”.
Kathy along with her managers have developed a contract with the local venders in order to bring these organic foods the their stores. People want to enjoy different types of foods when they cook and the variety will help the stores reputation. The contracts to get organic produce will help emphasize the Kudler Fine Foods goals to respond to the public’s desire to obtain goods that are not grown with synthetic chemicals. Organizational changes must be put into effect if Kudler Fine Foods wants to stock organic foods in their stores. The changes being made will also change the rest of the stores. A big problem would be a way to keep up with the variety however keep the prices low. People want different things but they will buy what is cheaper if the need to save money arises. Changes that need to be taken into account would be delivery protocols. Kathy and her team would need to ensure that they are aware of the risk and procedures of these contracts. For example the vendor may promise something and after money was spent on advertisement the vender backs out. Keeping tabs on the venders will help as well as knowing what is to be expected. Countermeasures need to be in place so that liabilities are always at their smallest.
A manager’s ultimate responsibility is to be ethical in his or her practices while managing employees, clientele, operations, and liabilities of an organization. To put their goals into effect Kudler Fine Foods had to create a management team that would center on new technology. This is important because the opposition in the food world is strong and everyone is out to make a profit. Kudler Fine Foods uses a very average structure system where Kathy Kudler herself is the founder and President. She dictates all of the action that goes on within the organization. Through her dedication to her gourmet products, she has established the personality of Kudler Fine Foods. As is demonstrated through memo and email communications, the attitude of the organization is friendly and open. These communications often contain jokes and personal references. With this being a small business with three stores that work closely together, many of the employees know each other on a more personal level. From a business perspective, how do consumers respond to ethical behavior in the
