She finally understood what it was like to be Arthur Radley. Scout could now see what her father was talking about. She realized Arthur is not a bad guy, he was just understood. Nobody really knows what someone else is going through unless they are experiencing it themselves. As humans, we jump to conclusions and make up things from the fear of not knowing. The people of Maycomb did not know who Arthur was so they made rumors to fill the fear of not knowing arthur Radley.
During the time of the trial, Atticus taught Scout that not everyone is treated equally as they should be. At the time many people were racist and biased, very few thought that of themselves. Atticus defended Tom Robinson, with the knowledge of the jury being racist and biased no matter how strong his evidence was.
