He saved his town from utter destruction and annihilation. His town was good too because they did not deserve the vengeance of Grendel but they recieved it anyways. So, the good included Beowulf the hero and the town he lived in. Now for the bad of the story. Obviously this includes Grendel because he was the monster that lives. This quote describes how evil Grendel is, “"The fact is, Unferth, if you were truly has keen and courageous as you claim to be Grendel would never have got away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horrors everywhere.(590-594) Even his mother knew he was evil =, but she still tried to save him because she loved him. She thought she could change his evil ways =, but she did not receive the chance to do that because Beowulf destroyed him once and for all. Grendel was the meaning of evil. He wanted to destroy everything in his path even the heroic Beowulf. I do also believe deep down inside Grendel there is a scared man that just wants to be loved and cherished by someone and he would probably stop being evil and destructive. Grendel died a evil human being, but that could have changed if Grendel was exposed to better people that loved him and wanted the best for him.
