Racism : Life In The South Martin Luther King Jr. said, "I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." During the time of his movements and motivational speaking rallies, hopes were high for equality and the demolision of racism as we knew it. He wasnt alone then in his pursuit for these goals, nor are the ones who sought it before him or the ones who are seeking it today. Racism has been and continues to be an issue in many places throughout the world. Examples of this date back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. People have been mistreated due to many factors that include, but arent limited to, race, demographic, religion, and sex. The most prevalent issue in the southern United States, however, is racism. Growing up in the south has been a blessing that i cherish deeply. There are innumerable beautiful things about Tennessee's landscape and the states that surround it. What many fail to realize, however, is that there is also a dark, underlying issue that seems to have remained as untouched as the landscape - racism.
