Controversial Speech

“Rarely do members of the same family grow up under the same roof.”- Richard Blech. “America cannot continue to lead the family of nations around the world if we suffer the collapse of the family here at home.”- Mitt Romney. These are just a few of many quotes related to family issues. About what? Id like to share a story. About a little girl who from a very young age grew up rarely ever seeing her parents because they were away from home working too many hours to even raise her as their own. This girl from age 4 and on hardly ever saw her parents due to them working jobs that took away time from even raising their own child. She was raised by so many other people other than her own parents. Imagine how it feels to not have your parents at age 5 to even say goodnight to you or say I love you before going to bed, to be alone in a home not knowing when your parents would come home. Or being in elementary school receiving awards and hoping to see your parents in the crowd to see you, but only to find that once again they were too busy working to even see you succeed. To grow up independent and unsheltered from the real world, maturing at a young age and seeing the world as it really is, unlike all the other little kids who are under their parents wing and then having those parents try to become a part of your life once your older. Its not easy. That little girls was me, which is why I am strongly against having two parents in a household work jobs that take away too much time from raising their own child. I am against it mainly because 1. its time consuming, 2. it affects the child emotionally as they grow, and 3. it actually costs more money than having one stay at home parent during the child’s early years. First, its time consuming because your many hours of work are consuming the time you should be spending raising your young child. If both parents are working jobs that take too many hours from being with the young child, then who is raising that child? Who other than the parent should be raising that young child? I know it’s hard to find a balance between work and family, but its doable. People may use the excuse that there’s childcare. But does the parent who doesn’t have time to raise their own child, even have enough time to really get to know the people that are essentially help raise the child? Or is it another one of those “dropoff and pickup” situations? More than 60% of parents spend less than 5-6 hours a day with their child, not including bedtime or lateshifts. We go to school for more than that amount of time. My second reason is that it affects the child life emotionally and leaves an impact. The love and care from a mother and father is essential in a childs life. How would it feel to be one of the few growing up
