“Lovers of feuding families will die” a line in the prologue of “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. “ Two houses by the names of Capulet and Montague are involved in a feud with one another. While indeed Romeo and Juliet are from different house, they however, are not exactly rivals. They meet each other at a dance and fall in love at first sight, but because of fate, their love will be a tragedy. In addition, the cause of the tragedy is because of fate and their family’s long lasting feud. Nevertheless, The feud between each family proved difficult for Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. They had to take drastic measures, which turned out to be a mere, colossal failure, resulting suicide committed by both lovers.
Many might believe that Character flaws, The Nurse, Friar Lawrence, Tybalt, Lord Capulet and Lord Montague, or even Romeo and Juliet are to blame. All of those are incorrect, because the prologue of the play states: “Lovers of feuding families will die” The prologue sets up the play and is a very good summary of how the story will turn out. A series of unfortunate events, Death of Tybalt, Mercutio, Romeo’s banishment, etc. We, as an audience already knew that this story was not going to end well when Romeo killed Tybalt in retaliation to Mercutios’s death. Romeo did not wish to brawl with Tybalt because he was related to him through marriage. Romeo wants to preserve his marriage to Juliet and prevent the situation of growing much more difficult, by of course killing Tybalt. In addition, after realizing what he had done, Romeo yells: “O! I am a fortune's fool!” exclaiming that fate is controlling his actions, causing these unfortunate events.
