One of the many great debates in American history, the ratification of the Constitution. This took place in 1787 through 1788 at the Constitutional Convention. They were two sides to this debate, those who supported the proposed constitution, and those who were against the proposed constitution. Federalists were supporting the Constitution because they thought we needed a stronger national republic and the constitution gave more powers to the central government. Anti federalists were against Constitution because they felt there should be more power for the state governments which is not what the Constitution did. They also claimed that we need a bill of rights to protect the rights for personal beings. The anti federalists have a stronger claim …show more content…
Their reasonings against having it was because they could just give the rest of the powers that were not given to the states or the federal government would be given to the people and the state governments in which there would not be any reason to have the Bill of
Rights. This was all to counteract the anti federalists arguments.
However, the anti federalists’ claim in which that we need a Bill of Rights is because They said giving too much power to the central government would threaten the authority of the states.

Rights because without it, the individuals would not have as many rights and it will protect them more than the constitution did. The anti federalists made it so the Constitution could not be ratified unless it had the Bill of Rights in it.
Besides that, Other federalists had different reasons to oppose the Constitution. They argued that the way the Constitution was written would make it that having so a new centralized government would have all the characteristics of the powers and cruelty Great Britain’s government had.
