Dumas was shown an immense amount of kindness when she moved to America based off of this quote. In the quote, Dumas states that she had slumber parties for her. In another place in the story, Dumas says “Kids invited me to their houses to show me what their rooms looked like.” (Dumas 15). Here we see how Dumas was treated by other children that she lived with in America. For instance, we noticed how the kids she knew showed her kindness and love through inviting her to their houses. At the same time, Dumas shows acceptance to the children by opening up to them. We see how her childhood, her family, and the people of California were affected by the great amount of love given. Dumas hopes that one day, people in America would treat immigrants with the same love and respect given to her. Maybe one day, Americans would be more accepting again.
