I have learned so much over the past 7 weeks. I have built upon previous knowledge. I am more comfortable in my new role as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). As an FNP, caring should be the focus of patient care. Caring and compassion were introduced by Florence Nightingale as the greatest fundamental part of nursing (Adams, 2016). As a Nurse practitioner, it is our responsibility to foster a caring environment for our patients. This caring environment should reflect a high regard for the patient, promotes respect and dignity

I can see where I have met the Chamberlain College of Nursing Program Outcome # 5 by advocating for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice and also provided my patients with extraordinary care. Compassion is the key element of nursing care (Bramley, & Matiti, 2014). It is important for nurses to understand what true compassion is in order to give compassionate care to their patients. Compassion is having a form of consciousness of the suffering of someone else coupled with the desire to relieve it (Dewar, 2013). We have diagnosed patients with diabetes base on their hemoglobin A1C results. I remember Mr. A, A1C level was 7.6. We diagnosed her with type 2 diagnose and placed her on metformin 500 mg BID. I educate her on what diabetes is and how important it is for her to monitor her blood sugar.
