How to approach college recruiting after your Freshman Season?

After your Freshman season, athletes should evaluate their progression and discuss with a coach what their strengths and weaknesses were. Focusing more on weaknesses, athletes should develop a training regiment to address these issues. Speed and strength are two key factors to dominating at the Varsity level so make sure to put these at the top of your list. In addition, athletes need to make a list of schools that they are interested in and should take the time to research the academic and athletic standards for each one. After your Sophomore season, athletes should continue to evaluate their progression and discuss with a coach what their strengths and weaknesses were. At this point, the athlete can take a look at their freshman season too. This creates a larger picture in the sense of development, by allowing the athlete to find way where they improved and fell short in the offseason. Focusing more on weaknesses, athletes should develop a training regiment to address these issues, but unlike your freshman season, the hope is that many of these weaknesses aren’t the same as before. At this point, you should have a realistic expectation of whether or not you will play at the next level. A school’s interest in you will be as clear as daylight and finding out what’s next in the recruiting process will be lined up in front of you. If need be, athlete should retake their SAT/ACT and check to make sure NCAA clearinghouse requirements are all met. A highlight film should be made of your senior season and sent out to the schools on their list of most interested. The athlete should already be in contact with college coaches and should understand the financial, athletic, and academic obligations of what will be required of them at the next level. Official visits will be taking place at this time so it is important to take advantage of this opportunity. Keep in mind, you are only allowed 5 official visits to Division 1 and Division 2 schools combined so make sure you use them wisely (Division 3 schools can be officially visited an unlimited amount of times). Meaning, its best to understand the exact level of interest the school has in you. Ask questions and make sure they have your best interest in
