Fried chicken, a movement that is sprouted in the United States due to one person; Isabel De Jesus. A strong, independent latina woman who was born and raised in Viceroyalty of New Spain (Spain) who was looking for a purpose in life. De Jesus grew up in the country surrounded by live stock and a family overpowered by men. She was surrounded by five older brothers who were all in line to take over the family farm. De Jesus had no chance in ever inheriting her family's’ farm no matter how strong headed she was. The country lifestyle at home began to get suffocating and eventually she felt she needed to move on and venture on her own. She eventually settled in Virginia and was unaware of how different it was in the “New World” during the 1730s. Segregation and slavery against African Americans was the nature of order at the time and De Jesus did not comprehend why it was happening. Her beliefs were practical and she felt that no one person was above another. One morning, De Jesus noticed an African American women being denied the ability to sell any merchandise or being able to raise expensive cuts of meat. Becoming aware of such a harsh environment made De Jesus renew her faith towards what she was trying to accomplish; a purpose to do something great. That is why she blindly kept going until she hit Virginia, a journey that almost killed her soul but was worth the struggle. The summer of July 15th, 1730 De Jesus was spending her time in a outside a cabin with plantation owner Emila Roberts, who was resented for treating black slaves as an equal, was allowing De Jesus to use her cabin as a means of location to experiment on her chicken revolution. De Jesus was holding a handful of chicken parts:thighs,wings, and breasts and was carelessly thrown off balance by live chicken feasting on chicken feed. The chicken parts miraculously landed in a boiling pot of lard that De Jesus left unattended. The chicken was left there by De Jesus to see what sort of thing might come out of an accident and it was there that she discovered there are no accidents. The evening of July 15th 1730, was dubbed the day the movement of “fried chicken” was initiated. De Jesus realized this warm hearted meal was the key to spreading strength through what brings people together; food.
