Women in their career tend to have babies which inflict with their work. In America you see one of the most discriminating laws and societal restrictions that combat women in the workforce. According to the Huffington post “The United States is one of three countries that don’t compensate women for maternity leave.” This is the biggest example of discrimination based on gender. Child bearing is an innate anatomical feature. There should not be a consequence or restriction against women because they need to give birth and nurture their kid. What this does is that it puts women in a spot where they would rather not have a baby because of financial issues. Workplaces should eliminate any forms of gender discrimination on the grounds of marital status, pregnancy or maternity, and in relation to family and caring responsibilities for both women and men. The achievement of gender equality in the workplace is not only right and fair, but also very important for the productivity of a business organization and a nation. Companies tend to work better if they have a diversity of talents and varied perspectives necessary for a more holistic analysis of issues facing the organization, leading to better decision-making and spurring greater collective effort towards implementing those decisions. Gender inequality is apparent in earnings with females making 77 cents to a man’s dollar. This means that for the same amount of work they make 23 cents less even though they are just as productive in what they do.. According to ILO “ In terms of women in leadership positions, in 2009 only 24 percent of CEOs in the US were women and they earned 74.5 percent as much as male CEOs. The Harvard Business School, in conjunction with Catalyst, recently released a research report regarding the level of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Fortune 500 companies with respect to the amount of women in the companies.” This is an example of apparent gender inequality in cooperate America. Even though they are employed to do the same thing, there is less women in the sector and they are overall getting paid less. Is it because men are more qualified with greater education? No, in a study by ILO “Women surpass men on education attainment among those employed aged 25 and over: 37.1 percent of women hold at least a bachelor’s degree compared to 34.9 percent for men they would however go into either a)education and health services, b) trade, transportation and utilities and c) local government” There are more women’s with degrees than men but they chose to go into a job that have considerably less pay.
