George Washington Carver, a black scientist and educator, was born as a slave but rose to prominence as a globally recognized botanist. He is celebrated for his numerous inventions, with over 300 applications discovered for the peanut. Carver was so important that he was the first African American to have a monument built in his honor. Carver was born into slavery in Missouri during the 1860s and faced numerous challenges as a black man in America. Despite this, he was determined to get an education and succeeded in becoming the first African American to attend Iowa State College, where he earned a master's degree in agriculture. After graduation, Carver became a professor at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, where he taught and conducted
