As the principal of George Washington Middle School, Ms. Thompson must make an ethical decision that she could back up if confronted by other faculty, advisors, or parents. Ms. Jones followed the school policy of getting permission for the laptops for her class. She provided the necessary lesson plan and had justification on why the laptops were necessary to execute the program. The laptops would allow her class to work at their own pace and level for her lesson. Because she taught the special education class, all of her students were at different levels. The high functioning students would often get bored during her lessons aiming toward the lower functioning students and the lower functioning students would often fall behind and stop paying attention during her lessons aimed toward the higher functioning students. Many times boredom and lack of attention would create behavior problems and would ruin the schedule of the day. Scheduling was a prime component in a special education student’s day. Thompson gives the laptops to Mr. Smith, the point of the laptop scheduling is invalidated. Mr. Smith was told by the head of the math department the importance of the students getting access to this new program to have the best chance possible of passing the test. The more students pass, the more funding the school will get for the future. Mr. Smith’s students will be able to eventually get college credit for math if they pass the test and continue on the advanced placement track. If Mr. Smith does not expose his students this program, there could be negative consequences for his students and possibly him. It is his responsibility to prepare his students in the best possible way for the test. If he does not use the program and his students do not do as well as he would have hoped, the mathematics head could account the poor scores as a reflection on Mr. Smith for dismissing the advice to use the computer
