When you go shopping, you might see packages with a butterfly and a plant in the corner that says “NON GMO Project”. All packages do not have this label though. Over time, Genetically Modified Organisms has made its way into more and more food as companies try to find ways to stop insects from eating crops and to increase the produce with hardier plants. When animals eat plants that have been modified, they now contain GMOs, such as the cows that produce the milk or the chicken that lays the eggs. It is a never ending cycle to keep GMOs growing. Because people have a right to know what is going into their body, restaurants and products that sell Genetically Modified Food should be required to label their food correctly.

Because the majority of field corn, soybeans and cotton contain GMOs, they are commonly found in vegetable oil, vegetable fat, margarines, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, cornstarch, and corn syrup (10). Plants are not the only things that contain GMO; animals, seeds, and humans also contain GMO. Several products that come from animals that contains GMO are meat, eggs, dairy products, honey, and milk. Also, alcohol, infant formula, and protein powder can contain GMO (10). Foods that contain GMO have massive amounts of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides (16). If pregnant moms consume GMO foods, she will pass that on to the baby in the womb and the baby could have a higher risk of birth defects. If you consume corn that contains GMOs there is a higher risk you could get cancer tumors (17). There is also a risk of the consumer getting depression, Alzheimer's Diseases, and may gain weight (18). Even though long term health consequences are unknown, would you want to risk these
