Sometimes defined as the “future of food,” genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, “are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional cross-breeding methods.” (https://www.nongmoproject.org/gmo-facts/). These organisms are created to improve the quality and quantity of specific organisms. While meant for benefits, GMOs come with quite a few strings attached: Genetically modified organisms poorly affect the health of humans, animals, and the environment.
In 1989, a dietary supplement of tryptophan was genetically modified, placed on the shelves of stores, and sold to the public consumer. This supplement “killed 37 people, permanently disabled 1,500 people, and caused 5,000 people to develop a blood disorder before the FDA was able to recall the product.” (https://www.decodedscience.org/gmo-food-pro-and-con/23179/2). The genetically modified substance mutilated over 2,000 people's lives. According to the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, “animal testing has found evidence

Between the year GMOs were introduced, 1996, and 2011, there was a 404 million-pound increase in pesticide use. Do you see the correlation here? In 2012, over six billion-pounds of pesticides were used throughout the world. That is six billion-pounds of poisonous chemicals seeping into the soil, contaminating water sources, and tainting the crops being sprayed. Pesticide Action Network (PAN) explains the decrease in bee population is caused partially by pesticides. PAN also states that contaminated waters endanger the fish that inhabitant it and birds, such as storks and egrets, that live on the land surrounding the water. These contaminated waters are even causing male tadpoles to develop into
