Many immigrants come to the United States in search of better opportunities for themselves and for their children. One of the reasons my parents sacrificed their lives to come to the United States from Cuba was for my brother and I to have a better future and become someone in life in this country of opportunities. Starting college is the primary key to success in this country. Since I was a little girl, I have always been driven to start college in order to start a tradition for my family, have a better future, and fulfill my dreams. Out of everyone in my family, I am the first to graduate high school and go to college. Both of my parents were forced to start working at a young age in Cuba. My parents and I are all employed at U-Haul. Although it is not a bad job, it definitely is not a great job compared to the jobs you can get with a degree. A successful college education can secure my future by offering me a range of career opportunities. Many jobs require you to have a college degree in order to be employed. Education opens the door to many high-paying jobs that enable people to have a better lifestyle. Last but not least, I hope to be able to fulfill my dreams little by little throughout my college experience. Not only my dreams, but also my parent’s dreams of watching me get an education and become someone in life. After all, that was the main reason they came to this country. All throughout my life, I have always been interested in doing something in the medical field. Although college is filled with unexpected discoveries and students are prone to change their minds, my dream career is to become a nurse. I enjoy helping others, and I would love to apply my knowledge to saving people’s lives every
