Everyone in this world has a limited amount of time. It is a cycle of getting rid of the old and brining in the new. With the limited amount of time, everyone wants to live a good life. The question now becomes what is the “good life”. Each person will have their own definition of the good life, due to a person’s morals, values and beliefs. Personally, I feel my good life is similar to Jefferson’s “way” rather than the modern states. Jefferson’s “way” seems to deal with people on an individual level, while the modern states address a society. When it comes to the “good life”, I believe it should be on the individual instead of a list of efficiency goals seen with the modern states. Jefferson states that all people are created equal and have “unalienable rights”. From a biological standpoint, all people are created the same way, which makes it equal. The unalienable rights can be thought of as natural rights. These rights as stated by Jefferson are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With the modern states …show more content…
Similar to Jefferson, the pursuit of happiness is key. Living in way that makes you happy is important but that’s only one aspect. Another would be to explore and try to understand one’s self. Education also plays into this role, by giving you the ability to learn about new things. This will help find what you love and lead to some type of job that you will enjoy and be happy doing. Family is also essential, it acts as a way to pass information from one generation to another. It gives a person something to work and care for. Living within a society with a government also serves a purpose in the good life. It allows you to live in a structured environment, with justice and freedom. This is also supported in Jefferson’s “way” to the good life.
