What was the Great Migration? The Great Migration was in the 20th century of African Americans migrating from the south to the north and west where there were large cities. It was caused by the World War 1 were there was industrialization areas were in shortage of industrial labors. About six million African Americans from the south relocated to the urban areas. They were driven to move to the urban areas because of their unsatisfactory economic opportunities and they had harsh segregation laws to the African Americans in the south.

African Americans began to build a new place for themselves and confront the racial prejudice, social challenges, and economic issues. Many of those new people found jobs in factories, slaughterhouses and foundries.
