The constant acknowledgment of agency being vague is crucial. In the extended reading, agency should attempt to be defined and clearly stated for its intended discipline. For agency to be accepted, the user/agent must try to create “actions that proceed in a casual way from one’s self or one’s own character in the absences of external compulsion, coercion, or mental defect” (4). This statement illuminates the vagueness of agency and any inherited confusion brought on in my analysis of this chapter. If I am understanding the role of agency, the freedom to act in different social settings can be reached with rational thought (based on knowledge and experience), yet possibly void of external and internal feelings and desires, allows judgment to guide a situation into a positive or negative existence. Of being fully controlling of thought, rational thought in my ability to question boundaries in myself and the workplace can be problematic. I am part of a professional sphere that inhabits four other people. In this facility, we are the smallest group which positions more social interference (than the larger group). I use the term ‘interference’ with others due to my inability to learn from social interactions. The reason this situation is not an engagement on my behalf is due to my inability to compromise in situations of anxiety (in my case, anxiety is constant). My concern is in how one applies agency and in my view, eliminating emotions and desires will always be a factor, in connection to a person’s scale of morals and values.
