You have decided to move off campus and are excited about starting a new life journey, that of a renter. This is a exciting time, but can be just as overwhelming as getting into college in the first place. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be if you do it right. Follow the checklist for moving off campus listed below to ensure a great start to your new life adventure:
Budget:
Before looking at apartments or homes for rent you to need to know how much you can afford. Answer the following questions to figure this out:
Are you going to work to pay for rent?
If you are going to pay it yourself, how much can you bring in without it cutting into your school work?
Are your parents going to help you with rent?

After all, you don’t want to rush through the process and end up in a lease living in a less than desirable location. Therefore, start early when you are ready to move off campus. Give yourself a month or more at minimum to make your decision.
Do Your Homework:
During the time you are taking to make this decision, do your homework well. What do you need to find out, you might ask? Well, one aspect to consider is how far away you will be living from school and other important locations, like grocery stores. When you have narrowed down your choice between one or two apartments, complete some practice runs driving from the apartments to your school and other locations during different times of the day, especially during the time you would be driving to school. In other words, even a nice apartment that is a little too out-of-the way might not be the right choice.
Do your homework to find out what apartment is located in the best location. Also, find out important information about the apartments you are considering. The questions below should be answered before moving off campus:
