In a way, they are meant to attempt to shut down the person whom the offence happens to. Often, this person is innocent and may be oblivious of the reasons why the crimes are happening to him or her. In addition, some of the reasons for the motivation of the bias are unchangeable on the part of the victim. As such, the victim feels helpless in that situation and cannot do anything. The personal attack on a person’s immutable characteristics may have some devastating effects on the person and their family. In addition to the loss of property in case of vandalism, there is a chance that the victim may feel something emotionally. These feelings may include fear that the crime could happen again, grief in the case of the loss of a loved one, anger, at the lack of ability to change the situation and finally, vulnerability in case another such attack occurs (Gerstenfield, 2013). In my opinion, jail is the most severe of these two types of punishment. However, the jail term should depend on the jury, and the type of crime. More severe crimes should be punished more severely. In case of anything, the people involved should make sure that the person also has time to severe the community and volunteer. To minimize chances of these crimes occurring, better prevention strategies are necessary. For example, people should be taught and encouraged to respect the beliefs of others. In addition, they should understand the history of their culture, and that of other people (Levin &MacDevitt, 2013). Finally, they should understand that human beings are one race, and only physical differences exist between them. These differences should never be a basis for hate or any other
