Hi the is Eromosele, I love Grand Canyon University. Health Believe Model ( HBM) is a psychological models that helps explain why patient may accept or reject preventive health services or adopt health behaviors (Euromed info, n.d). For nurses to be very effective in health believe model, we have to put nursing process into consideration by establish a nursing diagnosis which is derived from data taking and this helps to know the patients learning needs and the abilities to prepare interventions by starting a learning plan that works best for the patient. This is why we should understand our nursing process and pathophysiology to make our explanation clearer, the teaching to be mor effective and persuasive on how the changes could facilitate his or her recovery. For the patient to accept chenges in health related behavior, the HBM listed these requirement:
. The patient should know that he is at risk for developing a specific condition.
. The risk is serious and the consequences of developing the condition are undesirable
. The risk will be reduced by a specific behavior change.
.The barriers to the behavior change can be overcome and managed (Erkin and Ozsy,2012 p.32) …show more content…
When it comes to teaching, nurses should take baby steps with a patient, the information should be simple, in the level and language the patient would understand, interesting and not too long or it should be divided into steps, not too fast, show level of understanding and confidence for the patient to know that you are very much familiar with the topic, creat time for the patient to ask questions to give that empowerment, and let the the family be involved if that is the wish of the patient or would help the
