The Seed – A Lesson for Two
Although lessons learned in life may seem simplistic and trivial many can be relied upon to reinforce who we become in our latter years. Within this personal narrative I will make comparsions to the lessons learned with characters from ou short story readings and the movie “High Noon”.
My story takes place approximately two years ago during my daughters year in grade four, she was nine. It was in this academic year of elementary school that the students began to become more involved with science, and being from rural Nova Scotia, the science of agricultar in particular. That day she received her project from school she was upset, quite stressed for someone in elementary school. My wife and I consoled her and attempted to find out why she was so “out of sorts”. My daughter explained to us that for their project they needed to grow a vegetable at home, but she didn’t think she could do it. Little did she know that I had quite a green thumb and absolutely loved vegetable gardening as ahobby. It was only during these past nine years that I had strayed from this love due to military deployments and day to day family commitments. Although the act of putting a seed in some soil while providing sunlight and water is primitive, it can also be complex and overwhelming. You see my daughter may be able to operate all the latest devices and Skype to relatives around the world with ease, however, these straightforward tasks such as planting a seed become difficult if we have lost the basics of self sustainability.
