“A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever,” a retired olympic gymnast, Mary Lou Retton, stated. High school sports play a huge role and impacts many students and families lives because of the memories they are left with. The student and the family asses the risks and ultimately decided to play the sport regardless of what can happen. The government and public should not hold the power to decide what sports are safe enough for your child to play however, they should implement and enforce more safety measures for injuries and when they occur. The opposing side of high school sports wants to regulate what types of bats baseball players use, which should not be a public decision but the school/programs decision. The supporting side would like to enforce new safety measures and protocols if and when injuries occur for example, having a defibrillator at all athletic practices and games, as well as all coaching staff trained and certified in basic first aid. Athletic trainers would also solve the issue of not having anyone trained to deal or treat injuries. The supporting side knows that injuries will occur regardless of the equipment, they just want to be prepared with the right medical equipment and training when an injury occurs. With any sport comes the risk of injury and or death. All parents and athletes know that risk and continue to play high school sports. Almost all parents want less public/government involvement and more safety protocols implemented. All high schools should require coaches/staff to be trained and certified with basic first aid and carry a properly stocked medical kit as well as a defibrillator. Coaches know injuries will occur but most often are not prepared. By encouraging and enforcing safety measures regarding athlete's medical conditions can prevent an injury from getting worse as well as saving an athlete's
