Homeland defence refers to a country’s efforts to ensure the sovereignty of its state (s) through protection from the external invaders (Relyea, 2002). In the US the concept is mostly driven by the military and the department of defence. The department of defence is committed to the increased international alertness and enjoys the independence of the department as is the case with the judiciary of the United States.
